Happy Birthday, Izzy!

Hello.

My name is Josh Margolis. I am the owner of Lone Star Leash Services.  After years of being the one who takes care of everyone's pets while they are at work or out of town, I have finally decided to turn my love for taking care of animals into an official business.

Since this is my first blog entry, I'd thought I'd tell you a little bit about my first dog, Izzy.

Izzy was a wire hair fox terrier and I loved him very much.  Today is his birthday.  He would have been 33 years old today.  How we all wish our dog friends would live as long (and longer) as that!

I am an only child, so not only was Izzy my best friend, he was my brother.  He had a lot of patience and I think a sense of fun about him.  Growing up I always had my video camera documenting things and creating little shows.  Izzy would always be in my shows as different characters, sometimes even wearing the cleaning lady's wig in the video.

One of Izzy's best talents was his ability to answer the phone. One day when no one was home, a family friend called. When the phone was answered, she heard a lot of heaving breathing and snorting.

Later she told us she was sure that the dog had answered the phone.  We had never seen Izzy answer the phone, so we were sure she was mistaken.  Soon after, I answered the phone and someone had already picked it up.  I heard heavy breathing and snorting on the line.  I went downstairs to discover Izzy really had answered the phone.

Call for you.

Call for you.

I've always wondered what made Izzy decide to start answering the phone that day.  After being part of the family for six years by that point, what was it about that day that he decided to start answering the phone?   He kept on answering the phone for rest of his life.

Does your dog answer the phone?  Does he/she do something equally as interesting?  Let me know in the comments below.
